Overview of the module

The main goal of the course is to familiarize the participants of the summer school with the linguistic map of Kosovo. The course is designed to address issues such as follows: language policy, language and media and social and geographic aspects of all the languages spoken in Kosovo. Moreover, some evidence, shedding a light on the place of the Albanian language within the Indo-European language family, are considered by taking into account its historical development throughout different socio-political contexts. In this course special attention will be paid to the varieties of Gegh spoken in Kosovo. The course will end by addressing the phenomenon of language endangerment. Current situation in Kosovo will be analysed in light of language endangerment.

In the second week of the International Summer Academy students will have the opportunity to consider their writing from a range of perspectives; practice your writing in the context of your own work; increase your confidence in your writing by enabling you to improve your existing skills and cultivate your imagination. It will guide you through the process of writing an essay to writing a research paper, from brainstorming to writing to revising. The course will help to develop your critical and analytical skills, enhance your writing abilities, and work intensely in an inspiring and creative summer school environment. Moreover, it will help to enhance creative thought – it will prove useful in any area of expertise, whether humanities, natural sciences or economy. Students will examine strategies related to five key stages in the development of their writing, such as content (choosing your subject), sources (gathering the raw material), structure (turning facts into narrative), style (academic versus populist) and marketing (agents, contracts and public relations).
